Bentota

Just a normal day on the road.

Our nerdy selves couldn’t come to Sri Lanka and not go to Geoffery Bawa’s estate. For those not as nerdy as us, Geoffrey Bawa was one of the most famous architects in Sri Lanka. He built many beautiful homes and resorts in Sri Lanka and the Parliament House.

After he died in 2003 he donated his estate to the Sri Lankan people and you can do tours or stay on his 15-acre property, Lunuganga, which means Salt River in Sinhalese. The grounds are landscaped and walking around the estate is like walking into a series of rooms, each more beautiful than the last. The estate has several buildings to stay in, including Bawa’s actual home.

We found a cool place to stay just outside of Bentota for the night and we were lucky enough to be the only ones there. We just asked for rice and curry for dinner, wanting to keep it simple. We came down to one of the biggest and best Sri Lankan dinners of the trip. They totally spoilt us and it was as tasty as it looked.

One of the best meals we had the whole trip – highly recommend this place to stay.

Breakfast was pretty good too.
